Schedule of events
Listed below are all events affiliated with Steamboat Springs’ celebration of Tibetan art and culture this summer. All are free and open to the public unless indicated otherwise.
Library Hall and the Storytime Room are located in the Bud Werner Memorial Library at 1280 Lincoln Ave., downtown Steamboat Springs along the banks of the Yampa River.
The Depot is home to the Steamboat Springs Arts Council and is located across the river from the Library on 13th Street.
Thursday, July 29
10:30-11:30 a.m. Read to the Peak: Listen to a story from the Himalayas and make a Tibetan prayer flag - part of Bud Werner Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Program for children ages 5-10, located in the Storytime Room.
Thursday, August 12
6:30 p.m. “Blessings” film screening (90 min.) in Library Hall. There is a $10 suggested minimum donation at the door, with all proceeds benefiting the 3,000 Tsoknyi Nangchen nuns of eastern Tibet who are featured in the film. A Q&A with Steamboat resident Julie Green, who participated in the making of the film, follows the screening.

Saturday, August 14
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Art of the Himalaya exhibit at The Depot.
11-11:30 a.m. Opening ceremony for Mandala Sand Painting in Library Hall.
11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Drawing of the lines and starting to work on the mandala in Library Hall.
12:30 p.m.-6 p.m. Community sand painting in Library Hall

10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mandala sand painting in Library Hall.
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Community sand painting in Library Hall
10 a.m.-7 p.m. Art of the Himalaya exhibit at The Depot.
6 p.m. Public reception for Art of the Himalaya exhibit at The Depot, across the river from the Library on 13th Street.
Monday, August 16
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mandala sand painting in Library Hall.

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Art of the Himalaya exhibit at The Depot.
7:30 p.m. Lecture at The Buddhist Center of Steamboat Springs, 2550 Copper Frontage Rd. #201. Teaching topic and ticket prices TBD.
Tuesday, August 17
9 a.m.-3 p.m. Mandala sand painting in Library Hall.
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Community sand painting in Library Hall
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Art of the Himalaya exhibit at The Depot.
7:30 p.m. Sacred Music/Sacred Dance performance at Strings Music Festival. Tickets cost $28 for adults and $14 for children and are available online here or in-person at the Strings box office, 900 Strings Rd.
Wednesday, August 18
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mandala sand painting in Library Hall.
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Community sand painting in Library Hall
6 p.m. Mandala sand painting concludes. The completed mandala is open for final viewing for one hour in Library Hall before the closing ceremony.
7-7:30 p.m. Closing ceremony in Library Hall, including the swishing away of the mandala and sending it down the Yampa River.
