The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is presenting a community Himalayan Art Exhibit in conjunction with Mandala on the Yampa. The exhibit will be on display from Friday, August 13, through Tuesday, August 17. A community reception will be held on Sunday, August 15, at 6 p.m. The exhibit will feature Himalayan art or artifacts that have been collected or produced by community members who have spent time in the region. Interpretive signage will accompany each art and artifact so viewers can fully appreciate the range of Himalayan culture and art on display.

This is a call for submissions! Bring out your Himalayan art or artifacts and share them with the Yampa Valley community!

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking community members who have private Himalayan art or artifacts in their possession that would be available for display in this exhibit. Items can range from paintings, photos, thangkas, statues or sculptures collected during travels to Tibet, Nepal, India or Bhutan, to original pieces of art created to reflect the Himalayan culture.

Each community member is invited to submit up to five pieces of art. The pieces will be curated for the exhibition. To submit your pieces for the exhibit please send us a photo of each piece, the physical dimensions of each piece, and a written description of what the item represents. The description should indicate where it’s from and any additional context as part of the Himalayan story (including how you acquired it if that is a particularly significant or meaningful part of the story). These descriptions will be used in the exhibition.

All submissions for the exhibition must be received by Friday, July 16 for consideration. If you have questions about this exhibit please contact the Steamboat Springs Arts Council by calling 970.879.9008 or emailing rradetsky@steamboatspringsarts.com. All submissions can be sent via email to rradetsky@steamboatspringsarts.com or by mail to Steamboat Springs Arts Council attn: Himalayan Art Exhibit, P.O. Box 774284, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477.
